Finally: NFL, NBC To Start Streaming Games Online
alleyinsider.com — The National Football League and NBC U will announce a plan Monday to put Sunday night football games on the Web, the WSJ reports. The deal starts with the Sept. 4 season opener, and comes right after NBC will have streamed thousands of hours of the Olympic Games on the Web over 17 days in August.

- NYGiantsNYYanks, on 07/26/2008, -0/+14Nice, too bad the NFL network couldn't do this, considering many cable companies won't pick them up or even allow us to pay extra for it...
- preppypoof, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1I wish that CBS or FOX would pick this up too, so I actually have a choice of what Sunday morning games to watch. This is a start, but it doesn't really help...if I wanted to watch the Sunday night football game, I could just turn on the tv.
- bmullins, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1I think it's the NFL network's fault that you can't pay extra for it... Think they are playing hardball and not allowing the subscription model. They just want to up everyone's cable bill by making everyone pay for it. Like ESPN does to the tune of $3/mos.
I could be wrong.
(I'd gladly buy the nfl network for myself. But why would i force others to pay more for it. And why the hell am I paying for the Hallmark Channel?!?!?!)
- canewediggit, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2i wish they would just sell an online access package so i could stream any game i want live. i'd much rather watch my starting fantasy qb than the dolphins.
- ssn697, on 07/26/2008, -0/+2DirecTV is my peronal fall NFL football God. NFL ticket all the way, PLUS living in a state where no games are blackout games!
- 9bpm9, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2Sunday ticket sucks. They say you get every game, but when the Rams weren't having sellouts and the games were blacked out, they were also blacked out on the NFL Network, which is a joke.

- quomen, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2Wow this is great news. So, what's the drawback?
- forceuser, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Ads probably
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/27/2008, -0/+5well for starters you're watching a football game on a 1inch by 1inch square on your computer.
- allnone, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1You'll have to install Silverlight. But if you're watching the Olympics online, you'll be installing it anyway.
- Fuxsit, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1this is one step forward toward being able to see any game we want online...anyway still better than being stuck to the whims of the cable company...ntm you can choose a view from four different cameras, thats cool
- Schreck1, on 07/27/2008, -2/+11I live in Ohio. I'm A Saints fan. I have basic cable. I get to choose between the Browns and Lions - it's somewhat like asking someone to choose "Syphilis or Chlamydia?"
I will drop to my knees the day we can watch any game we want online.- doomchronage, on 07/27/2008, -0/+3Same situation and team, in Tennessee though. Too bad none of the Saints games are on NBC this season. It's a start though.
- Schreck1, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Eh, someday
- wc3452, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1You don't know that none of the Saints games are gonna be on NBC. NBC can pick it up for Sunday Night Football through the flex scheduling, however the Saints will have to do well in order for that to be even a possibility.
- bxblox, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2Go with chlamydia...
- fishface, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1move out of ohio.
- obliviousfool, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1The Browns weren't *too* horrible to watch last year.
- doomchronage, on 07/27/2008, -0/+3Same situation and team, in Tennessee though. Too bad none of the Saints games are on NBC this season. It's a start though.
- DanPlainview, on 07/27/2008, -6/+1Oi. canadian here. What is this, er, NFL, NBC? We don't get what you call the basic cable oot here in Otowa. We don't stream things that don't need to be strumd neither. This sounds like a big waste of paper to me. As Mum likes to say, it's those lousy "center-Americans" that are ruinin the environment I reckon.
Oh well, good luck with yer fireflys and dandywillows or whatever the heck it is that's bein strumd oot there. I'll be in Canada, eh, Enjoyin the smell of the roses.- duggdowncatisad, on 07/27/2008, -0/+4Don't worry, the NHL on CBC should be getting on board with this soon.
- DanPlainview, on 07/27/2008, -2/+1I told dem darned NHLers that they don't need no more strummin.
The CBC is a beautiful thing, much like the BBC but without all the color. we like things bland round here in canada, eh. - SLockhart, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1That's alright. We've got the CFL; it's like the NFL only more exciting.
- DanPlainview, on 07/27/2008, -2/+1I told dem darned NHLers that they don't need no more strummin.

- DanPlainview, on 07/27/2008, -4/+1Double post, eh.
- vibrokatana, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1You might want to go back to elementary school to learn grammar and spelling. Of course that is what you can expect from someone who lives in their mother's basement.
- DanPlainview, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1Me Mum is a fine woman and her basement is like a palace oot here in canada, eh.
Mum also says me spellins fine. It's noot like me job requires good grammer. I'm only a mountie for chrissake.
Ooh. And we don't have this "elemtry school" ya speek of oot here in canada, eh. Or maybe we do, I'm not sure, I was homeschooled fer most my life. - wc3452, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1For some reason I'm reading your posts with an Irish accent...

- kponto, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Phew... I was almost considering getting cable there for a second.
- Jeffler, on 07/27/2008, -2/+2NHL, please be next!
- Kershek, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1Versus already broadcasts their games on their web site for free.
Also, during the playoffs, they had cool ISO-cams of the star players. - electricwaffles, on 07/27/2008, -0/+0If no one watches NHL on TV, what makes you think they'll watch online?
- Jeffler, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1The NHL is actually the most popular league in north america in terms of online views - even ESPN.com says their NHL section is the most viewed of all sports.
- Kershek, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1Versus already broadcasts their games on their web site for free.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/27/2008, -0/+4I'd rather watch a football game in high def on my TV than in youtube 8th generation vhs quality, in a 1inch by 1inch square on my computer any day of the week.
- gfxlonghorn, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1Good use of hyperbole.. your English teacher would be proud.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1i'm not that far off. streaming video usually looks like bad VHS.
- gfxlonghorn, on 07/27/2008, -2/+2Actually on a 1x1 inch screen, vhs would look ***** amazing. That some pretty high pixel ratio.
- diemunkiesdie, on 07/27/2008, -0/+3Though if it come through in good quality this could be a godsend. Ever watched something on 480p on Hulu? I could watch that any day of the week and it still looks great full-screen.
- Gizmort, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2Dude check out the HD quality at hulu.com. I love it.
NFL + HULU.com = amazing- cadmiumpaint, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1but i'm still watching it on a 15" laptop screen which is much smaller than my tv. TV is better.
- gfxlonghorn, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1Good use of hyperbole.. your English teacher would be proud.
- CYR1X, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1Just so the uninformed know, through various Video Streaming sites, plenty of users stream sports events.
- FunnyBunnyBo, on 07/27/2008, -7/+1Who cares?
Has digg sold out so deeply that pointless sports-game stories are considered front page "news", while the criminal hearings in congress are blatantly buried by administrators.
LAME.
Digg sucks worse than ever.- Ryan166, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2you care more about CSPAN2 than the NFL on NBC? seriously?
- FunnyBunnyBo, on 07/27/2008, -3/+1Digg is like Urban Outfitters.
It was a fun store to shop at until their clothes got cheaper in quality and more expensive in price. Then someone decided to dig into Urban Outfitter's business history, and found out the man who owns Urban Outfitters is a staunch Bush supporter. That's when Urban Outfitters became more of a parasite than a clothing store. Only desperate people shop there now.
Urban Outfitters is like Digg. - noF3AR, on 07/27/2008, -0/+0yes, but you still suck more
reddit ftw - EtherGnat, on 07/27/2008, -0/+2You know what sucks on Digg? People making completely off-topic dumb ass rants. There have been a number of impeachment stories that have hit the front page. The "Sports ยป Football - US/Canada" topic is NOT the place to be talking about them.
Buried and blocked.
- gfxlonghorn, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1I don't understand why this has taken so long... I just want to be able to watch ***** on my computer. I will probably be more likely to watch the ads, or at least listen to them. There is no threat of "changing" the channel for commercials.
- Chargers, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1You don't understand why it's taken so long? I will give you 3.7 billion reasons why. $3.7 billion a year the TV Networks pay the NFL to have exclusive viewing rights. Now that networks are questioning the amount of money they are spending the NFL is laying the ground work for games to be distributed direct and if the networks don't want to pay up the NFL will use this as leverage. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out in the next few years.

- yourbrokenoven, on 07/27/2008, -3/+1this is sports. buried because it's sports.
- gkiltz, on 07/27/2008, -0/+0It will be interesting to see if people will actually watch this way. Most streaming video still lacks the picture quality of a decent tv set hooked up to cable or satellite. And, to make matters worse, analog cable is not what it could be, and most digital cable packages still run the local stations analog! as the transition to over-the air digital tv(which btw, looks good when it works, but has unreliable signals) it will be interesting to see that aspect play out.
Also keep in mind, a decent, but not outstanding digital tv set is, right now, cheaper than a good video card, and we are facing higher living costs!
The next couple of years will be both exciting and nerve-wracking! - bblande, on 07/27/2008, -1/+2Not all of the games? Epic fail.
- LEWINK, on 07/27/2008, -1/+1Finally, sports and porn at the same time!!!
- dafunkz, on 07/27/2008, -1/+0Did someone mention pron?
